This book takes you through all the stages of developing a database application, from initial database design, through SQL query design, Access form and report design, and onto Visual Basic database programming.
We have placed an emphasis on a number of aspects of the subject that are rarely found together in a single publication. These include the fundamentals of database design, namely, entity modelling and normalization; a comprehensive treatment of SQL; and a thoroughgoing treatment of software implementation using all aspects of Visual Basic. Further, a systematic treatment of the features and variations of functionality encountered amongst different versions of Access, SQL and Visual Basic is provided.
Many practical examples are included to illustrate the design and programming techniques involved, and it is hoped that these examples will provide useful in developing your own database designs and applications.
These practical examples will also enable students to learn the techniques required when dealing with assignments during their courses and the types of problems encountered in employment.
Each chapter provides the student with several exercises taken from examination papers and these thus represent the sort of problem you are likely to encounter during assessment. Solutions to many of these problems can be found on this website.
